- Do I have to attend Elevate to Junior Staff?
To be considered for junior staff, students must be entering 8th through 12th grade and attend Elevate or show comparable training. Examples of comparable training are serving as a volunteer in your church, youth group, or at another camp or work experience, and having references that will vouch for your maturity and character to successfully junior staff at BLBC.
- Can I automatically junior staff if I attend Elevate and am I guaranteed the position I desire?
We do not promise junior staffing opportunities to applicants. Whether you will be accepted for junior staff and the position to which you will be assigned depend on your application, references, and interview.
- When should I fill out the application, before attending Elevate or after?
We strongly recommend applying before Elevate. That allows us to better know who is interested in junior staffing so we can fill our needs and gives you a better chance of getting your first choice of position for which you are qualified.
- How soon after I apply will I hear back?
If you apply prior to Elevate, we typically respond within a week. If you apply during the week of Elevate you should know by Thursday of that week.
- What happens after I apply?
After you apply, BLBC reviews your application and references. If you are qualified to junior staff, we look at our needs for the summer, considering your availability, skills, qualifications, and preference, and try to find a good fit for you to serve here. If you are applying to be a Junior Cabin Leader, we will interview you, either in person at Elevate or over the phone/video conferencing if you are not able to attend Elevate. Because Junior Cabin Leaders are doing frontline ministry with campers, the screening process for Junior Cabin Leaders is much more in-depth.
- Do I get to choose the week I staff and the position I work in?
You may list what weeks you are available and your desired amount of weeks to staff in your application. You may also rate your top three role choices. Bair Lake Bible Camp then evaluates our needs for each week of camp and all of the potential junior staffer’s qualifications to fit people into specific roles. While we try to accommodate your preferences, we are not always able to do so. If you find that you don’t get the role or the number of weeks you desire, we are willing to discuss our decision and explain our reasoning, but we reserve the right to make the best decisions we can for Camp’s needs and your growth.

Junior cabin leaders assist one of our trained summer staff (college-aged or older) by staying in a cabin and pouring into the lives of 8-12 campers. Other junior staff roles include helping with day camp, housekeeping, maintenance, or dish crew. These other junior staffers stay in the Farmhouse, where they are supervised by houseparents (a married couple) who live in the Farmhouse with them all week. Each evening the junior staff does a fun activity around camp, worships together in junior staff-led music (bring your instrument!), and is led in a devotion by the houseparents. It’s a great bonding experience resulting in many lifelong friendships!
